You have to know what is the Statute of Limitations on your case. If the Statute runs two years from now, there is not much you can do to build a fire under your attorney.

If the Statute is approaching soon, put your attorney on written notice that he must file by the appropriate date. If he does not, you can sue your attorney.

The lawyer's failure to progress your case indicates that you need a new lawyer. If the case is a good one, it will be easy to find a new lawyer. Simply find a new attorney and have him take over the matter. This goes on all the time.
