I would have to agree that the bible is the most famous book in the world. Even if a person isn't Christian, pretty much everyone knows of the bible.

To be considered "well read" everyone should read the bible, and its topical too, worried about Global Warming? Read Revelation 11 v 18

The one that hasn't been written yet. Which is why it is so famous! If it had been written it would probably be stuck away on a shelf where it would be forgotten like a lot of the books today, in my opinion.

Harry Potter may be the best known among US children, but some parts of the world know little about him. Some may find that hard to believe- but it's true.

As far as text goes, the bible, though people please don't classify as fiction or non-fiction - just categorize it as a religous text so no one is offended. As for a novel, it would have to be either Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, or one of the many classics, or at least that's what I think.
