I don't know how many history "buffs" and/or research "buffs" there are participating in this forum, to answer this question but, it would seem like, to me, that if these 2 people ever lived in harmony then whatever it was that got them at each others throats, could be a root cause issue, which could be possibly eliminated by the peace process.

I crave peace! I wish they did.

Israel's only been around for 60 years. They've been at some level of conflict with the surrounding Arab countries the entire time. At one time, in pre-Roman and Greek days, Israel was the ruling entity in that area and it was somewhat peaceful (as peaceful as that area ever got, anyway). Since the Romans, there was never a time that Israel was a self-governing entity until post WWII.

From the time Muslims took over the area, there was an uneasy relationship between them and the Jews. It was always one-sided with the Jews basically living at the mercy of the various rulers, sometimes well, sometimes not.

What everyone needs to understand is that it is not God, Elohim or Allah that created Israel. IT IS THE UN!!! At the expense of the Palestinians. And it was created under arbitrary borders but never the less, SPECIFIC BOARDERS, which should be upgraded to STATES. Hamas recently, openly and OFFICIALY stated that they would RECOGNIZE Israel under the 1967 boarders. Hamas is currently paying a great price for cracking down on hardcore extremist rogue factions cells including Al-Qaeda. The last time Hamas talked about the 1967 boarders in 2006, they suffered a heavy Israeli AIR STRIKE the next day! “That will teach you to talk about the 1967 boarders” And by the way, it is Israel who started the 1967 war by lunching a surprise air strike on Egyptian airports; all of that while Egypt sent officials at the request of the U.S to discuss a solution to the Egyptian-Israeli crisis. Everything is currently set for a meaningful peace settlement. But Israel does not want that; they want all of the West Bank for starter and who know; maybe Lebanon and Syria?

No, their conflict is thousands of years old since the separation of the Shiites and the Sunnis. Together, these two factions are against the Western religions, so not only do they have a volatile relationship among kin, but also with the outside world. The truth is that this conflict will continue ad infinitum until they abandon their religion, which from the fanatism we see, will never happen.

Yes!

For quite some time, Jews and Arabs lived in Palestine together and got on really well. There were really no serious problems. But in the 1920s sadly, there were riots in Jerusalem and an Arab mob went beserk, setting fire to synagogues and killing any Jews they could find, especially in the Old City of Jerusalem.

There were also problems in Hebron, where historically Jews and Arabs did co-exist peacefully. In the end the Jews had to flee because so many of them died. There were also attacks by Arabs, on Jews, in Safed.

Wikipedia has a few very informative articles about these events.
