Cool question. If my goal is to "clean" my apartment, then I will usually vacuum the carpet, dust the baseboards, wipe down all surfaces, dust the blinds/curtains... actually, dust pretty much everything... desk, bookshelf, entertainment center, lamps, etc. Wash sheets and clothes. Clean mirrors. Clean the bathtub and toilet and mop all non-carpeted floors. Stain remover on the stairs. Throw away junk. I can't stand clutter. I like things to be very simplistic and spacious.
When I was growing up, my mother made me wake up at 8 or 9am every Saturday to clean the house until I moved out at age 18. For her, cleaning was bleaching the walls, taking down the curtains and washing them, cleaning out the fridge, cabinets, etc.. in addition to all the other stuff I listed above. For awhile after I moved out, I was a very messy person (I still can be sometimes) basically just because I was so effin happy that I didn't have to clean whenever she told me to anymore. But as I've gotten older, I prefer my living space to be dirt and clutter free. I'm just not as anal about it as she is.

As a military wife, here's my secret... Get it done right once... make everything spotless... and just maintain. Make your bed every morning, when you dirty a dish, wash it, when something spills... clean it. Make a schedule for laundry. And keep clutter down. If you don't need it, get rid of it. More over, if you don't need it... don't buy it to begin with! Here's what a typical cleaning schedule looks like at my house: Monday: baby's laundry Tuesday: rest of the laundry (except uniforms) Wednesday: dust, vacume, wipe down door and window ledges Thurday: bathrooms Friday: vacume again, change/wash linens Saturday: laundry: Uniforms only Sunday: relax EVERYDAY: clean kitchen, clean up kid's room, make bed, clean living room. Once you get into a routine, it takes less than an hour a day to maintain! Good luck.

My husband does the same thing as yours. Now, when I clean, if I'm in a good cleaning mode, I'll dust, mop, scrub, and disinfect.
But mostly I write notes and ask the boys to do stuff.

My idea of clean is to sanitize our home especially the bathroom and kitchen. I have two young boys and I want to keep them healthy. As far as clutter I try to keep it organized and one of the boys chores is to keep up with their room.....

Clean like not full of gross stuff, washed, bathed, smells good... But a mess is okay sometimes.

If I am able to walk without stepping on anything and breaking it, then I consider my apartment clean.
(I'm very messy)

what your husband does is called tidying...not cleaning.
cleaning means getting out the hoover, polish etc

my idea of clean is sterile - I clean everything, and put everything away (or at least make it look organized)
