That's easy to answer: it stops hurting when you're able to move on. When ever you are ready to move on, then you will stop hurting. Deciding is the hardest part; and that only can come with time. I know, it took me 4 years to get over my ex-wife. I didn't get invovled with anyone during that time. Inside I still cared and loved her with an intimacy that only a husband could, even though I realized she wasn't mine a long time ago.
I still care for her as a fellow human, but I don't have those deep intimate feelings for her - I don't crave her anymore either. Take your time, but keep yourself occupied so it miminizes the pain. Best thing I ever did was concern myself with other peoples problems and situations and that helped me by me helping others.
Hang in there.

Awww I am sorry that you are hurting! It takes time....and as for how long, that is hard to say. Everyone is different, it depends on how much you really do love her, if you were not together long then it won't take as long. No matter what it hurts and really nothing anyone says or does it doesn't make the hurt go away. I have always said I wish I could invent a pill that would make hurt go away! I can give you a few suggestion's....stay busy, don't sit around by yourself and just think...go out with friends/family....don't start dating someone else right away. Just keep your mind as busy as possible so you dont' have to think about it so much...and trust me that is alot easier to say than to do. I wish you the best...and I hope your hurt doesn't last too long!! Good Luck!

Generally speaking, about the time you find out that your newest girlfriend is really perfect. Part of life; girls like to take lots of samples before deciding which one to pick. This way, (a) they have an idea what's out there and (b) they always have the 'perfect one' that got away to frequently compare the less-perfect present one to. You'll get over it sooner than you think.

When you find out that she's NOT the "perfect girl" then, only then would you get on with your life.
It's the only way to get over it, once you fell out of love, chances of being with her again are pretty slim.

shes obviously not perfect if she dumped you for no reason... maybe she just wants her space or isnt ready to settle down... so you do the same.. enjoy yourself.. maybe go out and meet new people.. maybe you`ll meet someone better than her.. who knows! just hang in there.. and try to keep yourself busy

3 months, no seriously, it took me that long. Don't act sorrowful, try flirt as much as you can and don't bring up you two again, act like she didn't mean much to you, she'll fly back.
But after 3 months you'll be hating her rather than hurting.
