My son is 6, and he has his heart set on having a brother named Jack Robert. He uses that name all the time when he plays pirates and so on, he found a turtle and named it Jack Robert... he just loves that name. He started talking about his brother Jack Robert about a year and a half ago, and now that we're actually thinking up baby names, I'm wondering would it be horrible to just go with that? Would you be annoyed if you only got your name because your brother thought it was a good pirate name? I think Jack is kind of cute, and Robert is my father's middle name... so maybe it's not tooooo bad? What do you think?

Its a good name, and it would be a really nice thing to do.

It firmly incorporates your kid into the family, especially with the grandfather connection, and should hepl build a strong bond for brotherhood.

It could be a lot worse; a friends parents promised to let their youngest name to new baby (as he was very upset by the prospect of a new arrival). He wouldnt tell them what names he was thinking of, and seemed to take it very seriously, and when the kid arrived he said to the doctor 'His name is.....Buddy'! Its a bit silly, but hasnt worked out too bad actually

I think it's sweet. Maybe this way your oldest wont feel left out when the baby comes because he played a role in naming him. Also, maybe name him Jackson Robert and then you guys could call him Jack for short. Either way I think it is a cute idea.

I might consider using Robert, but I think Jack should just be a nickname for John. You could use John Robert, and call him Jack. That way, you're not using the exact name your son picked, but giving him input.

When I was four, my parents knew they were having a girl, so they 'let me pick' the boy name. I chose Poe Alan, after Edgar Allen Poe and my dad, Brett Alan. My parents will never let me live it down.

I think it's great that your son wants to help name his little brother. Jack Robert is actually a nice name. This will create a life long bond between the brothers. I think it's a great idea.

That is actually a really cute story (and one that I think a little brother could appreciate). Jack Robert is a nice name...at least it isn't something crazy like little kids usually come up with...my friend's daughter is stuck on the name "Africa" and names everything that as well :- ) Plus, it can make your little guy feel special and included when his new sibling arrives.

Jack Robert? And he's 6? I would go with what he wants especially if he really has his heart set on this. It's a nice name and the fact that a 6 yr old came up with it is even cuter.

I think it would be a good idea because it would make the older brother feel important and maybe even closer because he got to pick the name and if it has some sentimental value I don't see how Jack Robert could go wrong!

That's a great idea, one of my friends is named by her older sister, and if you like the name Jack Robert, and that's your fathers middle name, it has meaning, plus your son can already say it lol and he likes it, as long as your husband/SO/boyfriend likes it, then what 's the problem, go with it, plus it is a nice name

i had a final say in my sisters name at the age of 5, so i don't think it's too unusual, and my sister seems pretty fond of her name haha. I really would make the child feel more involved and special if he had a choice in naming your next son. Plus... jack roberts isn't really a bad name.

I would totally go with it. It is a cute name and would make big brother feel like he is playing a big part in what is going on with the new baby. We just had a new baby and were undecided between a couple of names, so our 3 yr old made the final decision. He has been so proud to tell everyone that he named his little brother.
