Hi,

6k - 8 - 4k = 6
4k - 8 = 6
4k = 14
k = 14/4
k=7/2 or 3.5

16= 2 (s + 9) - 4
16=2s + 18 - 4
16 = 2s + 14
2 = 2s
s=1

and

2= 3-4t/5

Multiply every term by 5 to cancel out the fraction.

5(2) = 5(3) - 5(4t/5)
10 = 15 - 4t
-5 = -4t
5/4 or 1.25 = t

I hope that helps!! :-)

With basic algebra like this, you need to get all the unknowns on one side of the equation. Think of the equation like an old-fashioned pair of balancing scales. You can add the same thing to both sides, or subtract it, and it still stays valid.

So: 6k - 8 - 4k = 6

You need to add 8 onto both sides of the equation first, to give:

6k - 4k = 6+8
so 2k = 14
and k = 7

For the second equation,
16 = 2(s+9) - 4

start by multiplying the brackets, so you have
16 = 2s + 18 - 4
so
16 = 2s + 14
subtract 14 from both sides of the equation, and you get:
2 = 2s
so s=1

For the third equation:

2 = 3 - 4t/5

that's a little more complicated as you have 4t/5, which is a negative fraction. But take one step at a time, and start with adding 4t/5 to both sides, so you have

2 + 4t/5 = 3

now subtract 2 from both sides, to give:

4t/5 = 3-2 = 1

So, if 4t/5 = 1, you can multiply both sides by 5, giving

4t = 5

so t = 5/4 (or 1.25)

6k - 8 - 4k = 6

2k =14

k = 7

16=2s+ 18 - 4

16 = 2s + 14

2= 2s

s=1

2= 3- 4/5 t

4/5t =1

t = 5/4

6k - 8 - 4k = 6
6K - 4K - 8 = 6
2K -8 + 8 = 6 + 8
2K + 0 = 14
2K = 14
1/2(2K) = 1/2(14)
K = 7

16= 2 (s + 9) - 4
16 = 2*s + 2*9 - 4
16 = 2s + 18 - 4
16 = 2s + 14
16 - 14 = 2s + 14 - 14
2 = 2s + 0
2 = 2s
1/2(2) = 1/2(2s)
1=s

2= 3-4t/5
5*2 = 5*(3 - 4t/5)
10 = 5*3 -5*(4t/5)
10 = 15 -5*(1/5)*4t since 4t/5 = 1/5(4t)
10 = 15 - (5/5)(4t)
10 = 15 - 1*4t
10 - 15 = 15 - 15 - 4t
-5 = -4t
(-1/4)*(-5) = (-1/4)*(-4t)
5/4 = t
