My 1 year-old Holland Lop loves to chew through wires... especially ones that are plugged in. I've bought him every toy in the book and he could care less about them. What kind of toy can I get him that would be similar to the rubber insulation of a wire, but isn't going to kill him?

I realized after I wrote this that I made myself sound like a negligent pet owner! Not the case at all. When we first got him, despite watching him, he would still run under our beds and scurry behind bookcases. We realized shortly there after that he was chewing on the wires that ran behind and underneath. We leared our lesson, and yes we do move the cords away and actually block off the rooms that have too many places to hide. He won't play with any toys we get him so I was just wondering if there was a certain toy that would inspire him like wires apparently do. Thank you all for your answers... even the "duh, what are you thinking lady" ones :-P

Something as simple as a toilet paper/paper towel roll usually entertains a rabbit. I think it might confuse him to give him something that is similar to the wires he is chewing on. Try buying a bitter tasting spray from your local pet store that is meant to keep rabbits away from chewing wires or try to move all the wires away from the floor so he cannot get to them or try getting a bunny "playpen" to keep him in an area where he won't hurt himself.

Paper bags and cardboard boxes can be used as hiding places, scratching posts and for chewing. Make sure there are two areas for your rabbit to enter and exit. A large cardboard box turned over with holes cut big enough for the rabbit to go inside and disappear are quite popular. Each day change the boxes as bunnies get bored easily. Use long boxes like those for fluorescent lights (open on each end) and computer boxes, which are turned over with holes cut in each end so he has his own burrow. # Cardboard rolls from toilet paper and paper towels are great chew toys. # Boxes full of shredded paper, junk mail or magazines can be used for playful digging and scratching. # Toys from other sources can also be used for bunnies. Cat toys that your bunny can roll or toss and bird toys that can be hung and batted or chewed can be fun. Even human baby rattles or mobiles make great playthings for rabbits. # Hard plastic lids from laundry detergent and softener bottles (carefully washed and rinsed) make excellent toys. They are easy to grasp with teeth and, as an added bonus, make great noises. # Dried pine cones, straw whisk brooms, hand towels and even old telephone books can keep your rabbit busy for hours. # Since rabbits love to chew, consider offering your bunny twigs as toys. If taken from a tree outside, age the wood for at least 3 months. An exception is an apple tree twig, which can be eaten straight off the tree. However, some twigs are poisonous – avoid twigs from cherry, peach, apricot, plum or redwood trees. Make sure all the toys are clean and not small enough to be swallowed. When chewed to a size that could cause a problem, discard and replace the toy. One good things about most homemade toys is that once they "disappear," as they inevitably will behind the sofa or refrigerator, bring them out later and they are once again "new" toys. hope i helped

Rabbits are not cats or dogs; they don't care about "toys".
They live to chew, as do most rodents.
You need to keep the bunny away from wires before it chokes on the rubbery bits, electrocutes himself, damages your electronics.
Why isn't it caged, crated, or penned? If it is released from such for "play" time, it is your responsibility to watch him. And, also unlike cats and dogs, nothing will teach him not to chew on wires, much less anything else you don't want him getting into.

We bought ours straw carrots and a huge alfalfa hay ball. He loves those. Also apple tree sticks are nice for them. You can get them at Petco or any pat store. My advice would be to get a crate, pen or something to keep him away from any wires. We bought to baby gates and gate ours in the hallway when he wants to play. Also they make huge hamster balls for rabbits to roll around in too.
