i guess they think the food in perishable and the clothes are "not what they're looking for" anymore, but coins aren't perishable and are always what people are looking for. we live in such a shallow world like that.

A dollar represents possibility. The food or clothes are actualities. They are things the dollar has already bought.

You've seen people who have internalized the principle of "keeping my options open," so they'd throw away objects, but not the power -- even in a small increment -- to acquire new options.
