I heard yesterday that one of the neighboring schools is imposing a fine to parents if their children are overweight. I think this is horrible unfair. Has anyone else herd of such things happening in schools? If it happens at my kids school I will home school and neither one of them are overweight but I think about the trauma it would put on them worrying about it.

Yes, it's true and an abomination. Children suffer enough ridicule and social trauma.

Well, I'm going to be the bad guy here...

Obesity is a serious concern and getting worse. If these fines are able to curb the health risks, I'm all for them. I haven't seen anything on it in the news, however, I highly doubt it'd be a strict weight. More like obviously obese.

I look forward to the day that obese people are required to buy 2 airline tickets too...had a few bad experiences there.

Personally, I think it's about time.

People just don't get it and kids health is the one that's taking the heat for it. Given 20 years, these kids will be growing up with heart disease, back problems, kidney and liver problems and respiratory problems. And with a weakening economy and health care system, we simply can't afford that to happen. Unless steps are taken to literally smack some knowledge into these parents, we're all in big trouble. No pun intended.

That is just wrong.

Schools have no right to dictate what a child should weigh.

I have never heard of this.
Legally it makes no sense.
