You absolutely should not use a 200 watt bulb in a fixture rated for 150 watts....This will exceed the Ul listing for the wiring and the sockets in the fixture and will become a fire hazard if you do so....will also make your insurance void if your home catches fire...

NO.....watts = temperature/amps and a 200 watt bulb generates more heat thermally and electrically than a 150. The products are designed to meet a UL rating (fire/safety). The materials and wiring use to manufacture the product meet this determined rating and labeled accordingly. When you exceed this rating, both the materials and wiring would, over time, deteriorate and/or catch on fire.

ok think about this.

rated at 150 and you want to put in 200!

the wattage is a form of power, power = energy = heat.

turn up the power = more heat = fire.

stick to the rated values or your insurance is in valid.

its not just heat at the lamp either. the power rating determines the current being drawn through the wire suppling the lamp. the circuit may go all around the house passing all forms of combustable items. the wire is also rated to a maximum. push more current and that too will heat up - thats how electric bar fires work.

No. That fixture has been tested and listed by UL for use with a 150 watt maximum wattage lamp. A larger lamp will overheat the fixture and wires.

NO! Why do think they rated the fixture at 150 Watts??

I would say not, either get a new lamp rated for the 200W bulbs or live with the possibility of fire hazzard if you decide to go for it
