I was a science teacher. If I had made this assignment I would have expected to see the best essays from students choosing hydrologic cycle for several reasons.
It's a concise, well circumscribed topic with a lot of really interesting variables. An example is the low rainfall in North Carolina this year has decreased fresh water inflow to Pamlico Sound, so it's salinity has increased. As a result the shrimp that live in the sound, who like lower salinity, have moved toward the mouths of rivers, where the big shrimp trawlers can't get to them, so the shrimpers are having a very bad year. There are hundreds of interesting little derivatives like this that are best understood through an understanding of the H Cycle, which is, itself, directly influenced by global warming. This connection between the two, if well done, would impress me.
A warning though: I was the kind of teacher who was always on the lookout for original, thoughtful work. I was in the minority. If you are writing to learn, choose H C. If you are writing for a grade, you have to write for your teacher.
edit: I just read bounce-3 answer. This is a slacker approach and sooo easy for a teacher to spot. If perfect, ie, perfect grammer, perfect spelling, perfect organization, his essay would get a C- from me. The purpose of an essay is to LEARN SOMETHING, not just get by, which B3 is advising you to do.

In my opinion do the Hydrologic cycle one.Two reasons, every ext person is keen to write and discuss on Global Warming. And though Hydrologic Cycle may have less things to say but add your own opinions ideas and thoughts.Yours would be the different one and hopefully,if you put your best effort, the best one too.
P.S.If you need some help,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydrology
But just get the idea from here.Don't do the copy-paste-print thing.
Originality counts.
*Good Luck*

well even tho some people told you to pick water cycle because alot of people are going to do the global warming.... who cares how many people do it,,.... i still say you sould pick GLOBAL WARMING because its a metter that is much more important and so with that said and knowing that alot of people are going to do it too just make sure you know your stuff and use hard facts dont put down bullshit comments and other crappy stuff like that.. .... use the people opinions go out and ask different people opinions, your teachers also get a part in the essay the quotes other opinions not just your and i does not matter if their is different than your because that gives great debating subjects you know.... and by doing that your essay will stand out from the otherss........
good luck and if you need any more help you know where to get it

Global warming may very well be "Typical" but it is an issue that needs to be resolved and quickly before time runs out on being able to resolve the problem. Speaking of which, there is no such thing as a problem only a challenge. Challenge yourself to make your essay less than typical.
Good Luck!
You never know what a bright mind might think of.

i would choose global warming; that is the big subject in this day and age; if you are writing an essay and worrying about having the sampe info as everyone else; you can make it controversial by using the standpoint that global warming is really not happening, that it is a natural cause, not exacerbated by humans; after all the ice age happened twice already in the past and humans weren't around with toxic fumes...that the sea level naturally fluctuates, etc.

choose global warming. if you're going for length, you'll find a lot of information on it. you'll also be be able to describe it better because you know so much about it.
