I have an old computer Pentium !!! 533 MHZ with SiS 630 board and my graphics card has 8mb memory and supports resolutions of 800 by 600 pixels and a maximum of 1024 by 768 now the question is want to connect a 22 Lcd monitor with supported resolution of 1650x1050. Now would there be a blurred display on my screen because my video card has a lower resolution. Should i go for a 19 inch lcd which has a lower resolution of 1440x900 or can i go ahead with the purchase of the 22 inch monitor. Thank you

You are going to have two problems.

First everything will be blurry because the monitor as to scale the image up from the desktop resolution to the monitor's native resolution.

Second everything will be stretched wide because the monitor will be scaling the 4:3 aspect ratio picture onto a 16:10 screen.

The best thing to do is to get a new computer.

Failing that get a new video card. AGP cards are still available, you can even get plain PCI cards if your system predates AGP.

That will give you widescreen and native resolution support for either the 19" or the 22".

My advice is to stick with the 22 and buy a decent video card for the machine for a few bucks.

A 19" LCD monitor is usually 1280 x 1024 native and as you know LCD monitors do not work well at resolutions other than the one they are designed for.

Get yourself a half decent graphics card and run the 22 inch at 1600 x 1050 and you will be pleased you did.

if you stick with the same video card, then yes it will look fuzzy. With LCD's the further you get away from the LCD's native resolution the fuzzier the picture gets. If I were you I'd be more interested in getting a new computer before getting a 22 inch monitor. The P3 is a relic and you won't be doing yourself a favor by pairing it the with new monitor.

Spend the money on a new computer and they often come packaged with LCD monitors.

But, yeah, without a better video card, you won't get the best resolution with that computer. With only 533 MHZ, though, will resolution really matter as you can't run newer software anyway?
