I think it belongs to the owners of the house, but she is basically saying finders keepers. What do you think? The story is on the Yahoo homepage if you want to look.

It's the home owner's money. The contractor is just being greedy. I don't even know why the contractor is trying to attempt taking the money. Any reason I've heard so far doesn't make even the slightest bit of sense. There is no law stating that the contractor can take whatever they want from a job site. There is a law saying if anyone takes something from your property, that doesn't belong to that person nor you, they are committing theft.

This contractor is trying to use some old law on the books that relates to pirates and treasures in hopes of being able to keep the money. Wrong! Unless some Judge or Jury buys into this old law which I doubt. I think this is a case where possession does not constitute ownership. I feel the owner of the home rightly deserves the money. Maybe the owner would give a reward to the contractor so everyone wins except the lawyers.

I feel it belongs to the current owner of the home...the $$ was on her property...however, since they are (or were) friends, I think it would be fair to share at least SOME of it...
Had this contractor found a PROBLEM he would have made SURE it was the homeowners problem to take care of...
I think think the key here is they are friends (or were)...the homeowner should at least give the contractor a little something for being honest enough to tell the homeowner about it...he could have just kept his mouth shut...

The contractor has no rightful declare to this money. while the Reece's offered the abode, they offered each and every thing in it and on the valuables. Finder's keeper's regulation won't be able to stick to to interior somebody's abode. My husband and that i very own a reworking business enterprise. He discovered a diamond ring wedged between the carpet he became into removing and the baseboard. He gave it to the abode proprietor and she or he all started freaking out with exhilaration. It became into her wedding ceremony ring that were lacking for 2 months. So, purely because of the fact somebody shows something at your house of abode, does no longer advise it is theirs to maintain. that must be rediculous. The contractor won't in any respect win this concern.

I agree with Devon R's comments above. I think it is completely insane that the contractor would even consider saying "Finders Keepers". What are we, six years old? You FOUND it in someones home. I think the 10% offer was more than generous.

Stupid video -- wouldn't download fast enough. Why don't they put written articles for people who want the news without all the pretty pictures?

You know, that's a lot of cash. The owners wouldn't know about it if it weren't for the contractor -- the contractor wouldn't know about it if the owners didn't hire her. There's enough to share!

Maybe the money has bad karma, though, and causes discord everytime it comes to light. (-: I read too many trashy novels!

I think it's the homeowners money. The stupid contractor is being greedy and should get NOTHING! She offered him a 10% finders fee and he wouldn't accept it, he wanted a greedy 40%! OMG what's wrong with people these days??

When i was a kid, my parents bought a house that was owned by an old man who died. When he died (before my parents bought the place) hired movers found a floor plank that looked a bit out of place, so they pulled it up and found $20,000 in coins! The nephew who did not even live there got the $$. I guess people were just more honest back then...

It was found in the homeowners house so it is hers. you can't go in to someones house and find something and say I get half. When the owner bought the house she got everything in it. I would have gave him some money for finding it but thats all. I can't beleive he is taking the homeowner to court.
