I work at a bed/bath store and we were told by the luxury towel manufacter NOT to use fabric softner on the towels.. It leaves a coating on the towels that doesn't come off and in time your towels will NOT dry properly.. So they suggested using baking soda in your wash water and drying as usual.. To keep towels soft and plush.... I use baking soda in ALL my wash loads... It's a laundry detergent "booster" I use less detergent and my clothes come out cleaner and smell more fresh.... good luck

If they are soft, they won't absorb any water. You choose, functional or soft. (Vinegar instead of fabric softener will make them absorb more water and "soften" naturally, they won't be as soft but will be functional.)

Don't over use & over wash them because that will daul the material. After every shower hang them back up on the side of your shower door and reuse them atleast another time. When your wash them use a good detergent that won't cause to much wear&tear on their material. Good brands are;http://www0.epinions.com/content_404967165572, after pour in a fabric softener;http://www0.epinions.com/content_212148129412, finally dry clouthes & add in;http://www0.epinions.com/content_190828351108. This wil keep your towels/clouthes nice and soft.
