it is just as good as halo in its own way, nothing can really compare to halo at this point....mass effect won best RPG game of the year at the video game awards, so its better than the other RPG's that came out this year. Hype doesn't win awards or Halo 3 would have won game of the year instead of Bioshock( halo 3---5.5 million copies sold, Bioshock 1.5 million copies sold)I've been watching my xbox live friends play it, close to all have played it twice, most have played it 3 times, a few have replayed it 4,5,6 times. this game has a level of replayablity that hasn't been seen in a long time
there is no xbox live play, but you can download updates and extra content if needed,
they may at some point add a multiplayer option to the game, like they are doing with the overlord game (fingers crossed)

Just because it has a science fiction setting does not mean you should compare it to Halo. It is NOTHING like Halo. I own it, but unfortunately I've only had the time to spend like an hour on it, and it seems pretty good thus far. As for length, you cannot beat it in a day, unless you're a huge loser. There is minimum 20 hours of gameplay. If you explore everything, they say you can push 60. Plus, with all the different classes, theres actually a reason for multiple play throughs.

I doubt you can go on live with Mass Effect, but if you like RPGs then what other options do you really have on the 360 at the moment?
I've heard it's an incredible game and I have every intention of buying it if somebody doesn't get if for me for x-mas.

Depends on what games you like, if you like role playing/choice games like Knights of the Old Republic then you'll probably like Mass Effect. If only like games like Halo then you probably won't like game.

If you are really into rpg games. I had the game and played it for a couple of hours, and i returned it. I thought it was boring, thats my opinion. Rent it or gamefly it. See if you like it .

Oblivion is better but yeah its good if you want to save money and want to get an rpg get Oblivion.
