i have never seen a meteor and was looking up into the sky all night last night. On the web, it was said to be very spectacular and you could see it in the suburbs even with lots of night pollution. Why didn't i see it?
i live in Williamstown Melbourne Victoria Australia.

The best viewing will still be out away from the lights of the city. If you can find a place with little or no light pollution, go there. It's bound to be better than in a suburb. You may have to drive a bit to find a spot like this, but it's worth it - the Geminids come only once a year.

If you can't do that, at least try to find a spot where the lights are screened from you, like on the dark side of a building, or with something solid between you and the lights. Also, allow at least 5 minutes for your eyes to adjust to the dark.

The Geminid meteor shower peak has past us now but it is not over yet! You can still see some best if you get away from the city lights to a darker sky location. If you stay in the city you will only be able to see the bigger and brighter ones. Meteor showers last for days and when the experts talk about the expected peak that doesnt mean that it is done and over. Go out and look up. Be patient. They are usually measured in meteors per hour and this one is expected to be pretty active.

I live in Springfield IL and I went out to the country last night around mid night. We were out there for about a half hour and saw approx. 50. I have never seen anything like it. Some were small others were big, and I even saw a couple redish orange ones.

i could have cherished to, as i like astronomy. The sky replaced into sparkling, so visiblity, different than the consistent subject of city night easy, I would desire to have been waiting to confirm them (theoretically), although, i did no longer extremely have the prospect. See the assertion on the subject of the intense point of sunshine from the city panorama (curse that city easy pollution!) the final viewing replaced into additionally way after my bedtime!
