your muscles consume more oxygen when you exercise so you breath faster and your heart must work faster to deliver the oxygen.

Heart rate goes up when you are emotional so first calm down. Your coach is being sensible and saying that you need to be sure that you don't have any lurking heart problems before you train for triathlon. The chances are that you don't but better safe than sorry. Take your pulse before you get out of bed in the morning, it should be below 80, usually it is about 70 and could drop even lower as you get fully trained for triathlon. Make another appointment for an ecg at a time when you can get there nice and relaxed. You know it doesn't hurt. Since you have a pulse rate which can get quite high make sure it doesn't go too high while you are training. You can get some easy wear pulse monitors now. To calculate maximum level subtract your age from 220 and aim for 60-80% of this depending on your fitness. Stop if you go above 80% and reduce your training schedule.

As you exercise, your muscles are converting potential energy into kinetic energy. This is done by means of a chemical reaction: one of the ingredients for this reaction is oxygen. The other ingredient is carbohydrate (from food). Both these ingredients are transported to the tissues by the blood, which also carries away the waste products from the reaction. The more energy you are converting, the more oxygen you require. So your rate of breathing will increase. Your heart rate will also increase, in order to carry more ingredients to the muscles and remove more waste products.

When you excersise you incur an "oxygen debt". You must breather more often and more deeply in order to supply youe cells with enough oxygen for respiration. At times anerobic respiration may be resorted to by your cells if they do not receive enough oxygen. This causes a buildup of lactic acid that is broken down by oxidation after you repay your "oxygen debt". Your heart rate increases as well so that an increased volume of blood (which transports oxygen and the substrates for respiration) can reach the cells which require them. It's all about supply and demand really.

Your breathing increases because your body needs more oxygen when you exercise. Your body detects that you're consuming more oxygen than usual so it tells your heart to pump more blood to the body (your heart rate increases). The blood caries oxygen through out the body.

When you excercise, your body's oxygen/nutrient demand rises, mostly due to muscle activity. Your breathing rate and heart rate will both increase in order to deliver more oxygen to your muscles faster.

when u exercise, your body need energy to perform that task, your muscles take that energy energy by burning calories,in order to keep getting energy oxygen is required,so when u exercise your breathing rate increase in order to get more oxygen, since oxygen is taken to muscles through blood.your heart starts beating faster and faster so that your muscles get required oxygen. So its very simple, you exercise, your muscle starts producing energy,in order to keep sufficient oxygen supply your breathing increase and your heart works harder.
