As far as I can tell, there never was an official insurance grouping given to the FTO in the UK, although Mitsubishi did in fact import the model into the UK for a short time.
It will probably be somewhere in the region of group 16-18, though, which is top spec BMW territory and won't be cheap.

The Association of British Insurers only issue standard groupings for cars marketed as new in the UK.
The Mitsubishi FTO was never sold new in the UK, so does not have an ABI group rating.
It will therefore be up to individual insurance companies to decide how to rate this vehicle.

Imports groupings are mainly based on a similar vehicle and usually a loading may be applied due to parts being difficult to buy and expensive.
The best place for an insurance are who say they cover imports, they are not always expensive.
Even though this car is a similar look alike of a porche it does not have the insurance £££££££ as one

A friend of mine has one he claims group 20. Although in saying that he only pays £175 a year because his is a 1993 and he uses it as a second car. He has classic insurance on it. This may help if you are able to do the same.

best places to try on this fto site.
Imports will already have a set group, but barter the price,
Iam with aplan for my Skyline and was great on mods and furture mods but again worth a barter as got some discount, what did help was joining the skylineowners forum as i also got club discount,so it might be worth joing a FTO forum and see where they go,No better answer then from owners themselves.
Above wow £175 i had a R32 Skyline 1992 version and was with hyperformance group 20 and was paying £800 and iam in my early thirties.
