Personally, rap annoys the dickens out of me. It gives me a headache within minutes!

I see it as promoting and continuing the negativity that may have been true in the past, but needs to be let go now so that people can move on.

We manifest what we think about. If people continue to dwell on thoughts of hard times or violence, that's what they will manifest in their lives.

I think everybody on the planet could use more inspiring and uplifting lyrics to make us feel better instead of the angry and depressing rap crap!

Sup Chocolate Bunny

What a tasty name huh? makes me want to bite you lol...

Up to the question:
Rappers basically do that trying to relate to his listeners (mainly ghetto people). Some never lived it and rhyme about it (fake f*cks) and some really came from it. Those dudes know what they're talking about and I'm with them. They came out the poverty and suffering, but it will never will came out of them once they lived it. And people that's still struggling to survive in the ghetto relate to that kind of lyrics and vibe to it.
I mean, I'd hear Too $hort's song "The Ghetto" when he was an up-and-coming artist, still living there, and now that he's outta there too.'

EDIT: To Pat K
almost everything you said is right, but you can't condem the whole "rap" genre... there's a lot of positive cats spittin'. Talib Kweli, Common, Mos Def, and others... and f*ck these bloodshed rappers. Not the whole rap or hip hop culture. Pay attention at what you say. Peace

A lot of big-name rappers are actually criticized for doing this, as they are now living a full, rich life, and any hard life they had in their youth is probably long gone.

However, many up-and-coming rappers are truly coming from poor areas of very urbanized cities, and may actually have some truth to their lyrics when they rap about their hard lives. Though many rappers who do rap about hard times either never experienced them, or are long over them, some actually do go through brutal life in the streets, or as a very poor person, and they express that through their music.

some of the rappers do not know how to leave the hood alone. you know how they say you can take the girl out of the ghetto but you cant take the ghetto out of the girl? Well it's the same thing. Because these rappers have endured struggle, pain and strive throughout their childhood and somewhat adult life, it is hard for the realization to set in that they are well off now. Everything is still a hustle to them. You hustle to get in you hustle to stay in. cause their is always someone trying to get what you got. who can blame them?

Basically they're rapping about the hard times they had because they WEREN'T always rich & famous...and most of the tracks are for the people that are still living poor & it's saying.."Hey..I been where you are..and I know how you feel..but you can get where I'm at & thing don't always have to be bad so keep your head up"

Understand now...?

Pat K...how you gonna come in here & say rap is negative when you're in here(an section of music you don't like) PROMOTING your negativity. Learn from yourself........damn!

Their inspiration came from hard times... that was why they got in the game..to get out of all that.. I think I know what you saying though...they not on the streets anymore so why front like they live in the projects!! But maybe its therapuetic since the streets played a big role in where they are now.

I think its more so to let people who live the hard life know that they've been where they are, its to make music people can relate to. Its like hearing Beyonce sing love songs all the time, yes it's great but sometimes you want to hear a song like "Rain on me" by Ashanti b/c it talks about real things that real women go through.

Just cause rappers make some money doesnt mean they have to change their state of mind...They are who they are...Plus there are tons of rappers who talk about money...jewelry...and cars....Do you really need more of that?
