To answer the question if I cease to exist if I am in a room by myself: Well, I would simply be my own observer...

As to who came up with this rubbish, that would be George Berkeley, an Irish philosopher. I merely asked this question so that I may know your opinion. And calling a question rubbish won't prove nor disprove anything. Thank you, have a nice day.

Good to see you back!

I definitely would agree that to exist is to be perceived. We know the existence because of what we perceived by our senses. The natural existence man perceived are dependent on what they rely on their sense organ. Otherwise we may not know existence without the knowledge we have through perceptions.

Thanks for asking. Have a great day!

Neither to perceive nor to be perceived is determining the quality of existence. Existence as such is self sufficient. Perception of one self or the other may vary according to a quality of consciousness. Existence is as such. Thus existence is related to presence and not perception.

Do you cease to exist when in a room by yourself?

Edit: In that case, the answer would be circular. As long as you exist to perceive yourself, you exist.

Who comes out with rubbish like this? You might as well ask whether galaxies, globular star clusters and binary stars existed 200 years ago. Quoting in Latin for authority will not turn rubbish into gold.

I think it is the other way around.... to exist is to be able to perceive. It is the subject that exists and the entity of the subject is defined by its capability of perception of an object.
