Compare Jay-Z' prime (Reasonable Doubt, Vol 2 - Hard Knock Life and The Blueprint) with Nas prime (Illmatic, Stillmatic) and tell me if you think that he reached Nas lyrical level... nowadays they're rich and lazy, pratically at the same level (Imo Jay-Z even outshined him on Black Republicans and at this new track from American Gangster Nas is a little better) but let's talk about these rappers prime...

I think Jay-Z has always had the best mix of lyrics, rhyme and beat. But as far as Nas goes, especially on Illmatic, he pretty much made the focus of rap shift back to lyricism. It'd be hard to find a rapper that could mix such complex rhymes and still have a flow like Nas does on Illmatic.

You lost me when you said Jay outshined Nas on "Black Republicans".
You might want to give that another listen.

I think Jigga came damn close. However, Jigga never came close to Nas' poetic level. That's not even debatable.

Also, personally, I think had the better verse off Black republican. Jigga's part on the hook was better though lol.
