The Chinese ones are actually some of the best to practise your pen skill as you are not hidered (I believe) by knowledge of the characters so you can concetrate on the shape.

When I go through the search engines the first usable page I get is: http://images.ask.com/pictures?o=12572&q=calligraphy+alphabet&ef_id=1370:3:s_87d222c5280fea142f481861654c5405_856872385_calligraphy%20alphabet:JzDhPtB6B2YAADO5xogAAAAY:20071214144818

Look, they seem a LITTLE advanced (my calligraphy class was in 1976). Dover has always tried to print high quality paperbacks as cheaply as possible. While they have been through bankruptcy the number of calligraphy books they've published is awesome and I heartily recommend calling local second-hand bookstores. However tight your budget there is sure to be an affordable one out there. Also, my current pen set has a really nice booklet with practice alphabets. Most pen sets do have booklets which might be nice or not. Use them.

I did just find this: http://www.learncalligraphy.co.uk/

Visit the CLAS website (Calligraphy and Lettering Arts Society) for details of approved classes and tutors who may be local to you (UK and abroad), it is difficult to learn effectively in isolation and you will come on with leaps and bounds with the right tuition. Distance learning packages are available from some tutors.
Bear in mind that calligraphy has little to do with handwriting - it is the formation of letters by drawing with a broad edged instrument; the plus side is, you can have awful handwriting, but still produce beautiful calligraphy. Good luck.

If you truly want to learn calligraphy then get hold of a good book as I haven't seen anything that would compare to the instruction you would get from a good teacher. Also you need to find a course so you can get some one to one instruction to help you correct any faults in your letter shaping.

Start by learning to do a good foundational hand and then work from there.
