For us Agios Basilis sends gifts to the children.

But Santa is Saint Nicholas.

Guys i don't "inform" you that Santa send the gifts to the children !

It's not something new ! :)

I only say , and refer to the Greek users, that in general Santa Claus is Snt Nicholas but in Greece is Snt Basil.

And i ask if we r the only country who think that Santa is Snt Basil.

This is an orthodox thing, and also what is important is that St. Basil is bringing spiritual-educational presents (krataei pena kai xarti) as well as candy.

Still lying for your god then?! Or is it that you are just ignorant of facts? Santa Claus came from the Dutch “Sinterklaas” and was a tall figure riding a white horse through the air and usually accompanied by Black Peter, an elf who punished disobedient children. Also the origin of the reindeer, sleigh and the elves ALL PAGAN!

In our Serbian orthodox tradition Santa is connected with Saint Nicholas, and as I know it's in Russian too.
I know for Greek vasilopita, but I didn't knew that you consider Agios Basilis to be Santa. If vasilopita is tradition related to this saint particularly in Greece, we have the same tradition, only we make bread with coin on Christmas ("chesnitza" in serbian). But it's not related to St. Basil, as I know.

I found the article interesting above - I didn't know that the Greek church celebrates the circumcision of Christ of the 1st - is this true?
I've seen the onions tied to houses - but surprisingly I saw more in Athens than I do here in Preveza.

I think it's only Greece - maybe Russia (but not sure)

its not a matter of nationality

its a matter of religion

Orthodox Christians have Agios Vasilis instead of Santa Clause

What? I always thought it was Saint Nicholas mainly due to the song "Joly Old Saint Nicholas"
