So I just got off the phone a bit ago with one of my best buds, and I'm really worried about him. He's been suspended academically from the school before, and just came back this semester. He was upset because he just took his second final today and is almost positive that he failed the final, therefore the class as a whole. He's worried that he'll be kicked out again, so what can he do? I told him maybe he could go to an adviser tomorrow and withdraw from the whole semester (he only had 12 hours). Is that even possible to do? It calmed him down, but I'm worried I gave him false hope. Please help.

I don't think he should withdraw from the whole semester, just the classes that he is failing. He needs to go to an adviser to see what can be done to salvage his college career. One possibility is for him to consider taking a couple of semesters at a community college where classes are smaller and there is less competition. He will get more help from the instructors there. Once he has a good foundation, he can matriculate back into the university.

When I was getting out of high school, I was overwhelmed by the university atmosphere, even though I was quite smart. I didn't have very good foundations in writing and math, which made it hard when I took chemistry or advanced writing classes. I struck a deal with the university that if I got good grades in community college for two semesters, then I could come back in good standing at the university.

When I went to the C.C., I took writing, math and chemistry. With the small classes and personalized instruction, I did quite well. When I went back from to the U. I maintained a 3.5 grade average. Worked for me.

If he were to drop all of his courses right now, it is likely he would receive all Es in the courses. At most schools, it is too late in the term to drop. If he would like to remain enrolled for the semester starting in January, he'll want to talk to an advisor and the registrar. If he is truly dismissed from the school after this semester, he'll need to appeal that decision. His advisor should be able to give him information regarding the appeal, and if s/he can't, he definitely would want to talk to the registrar. S/he would be able to assist him with the process - often times the registrar has the decision to overturn the dismissal. Obviously this is not exact for every school, but it's definitely a great place to start.

Best of luck!

Under the circumstances, you did the best you could. The important thing is that your friend calmed down a little. He'll have to wait to find out what grade he got in the exam and then go from there. If he's having real academic troubles, then he should probably talk with one of his teachers, someone he can trust.

Do now not act infantile and do your homework (This is coming from a lady who procrastinates in relation to homework) Your grades will pass down so quick, I can't strain that adequate. And worse off lecturers honestly may not care what your problem is except it is some thing critical. Don't act like a *****, due to the fact all you'll be able to get is drama and believe me you don't wish that. But rather than that act foolish make peers, and feature a laugh!

either way, it wouldn't hurt for him to talk to an adivsor. knowing that he's putting in an effort they may be able to do something. and he might be worried about nothing. usually you do better than u think on those things. i know here, if the whole class has trouble on a test, they grade on a curve.

good luck to your friend, and just let him know, either way, it's not the end of the world
