What kind of music, and maybe mention some artists you really grew up listening to?

For me, I remember Fleetwood Mac, Tom Petty, Journey, Boston, AC/DC, Eric Clapton, etc....

Classical. Also classic rock (The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, Cream, Jefferson Airplane) although most of that stuff was recorded before I was even born. I just liked it a lot better than the pop stuff I heard on the radio.

My dad listens to a wide variety of music - Irish, Cajun, Celtic, Bluegrass, some Rock, some Country, etc. My mom listens to mostly country and old rock. Some of the artists I remember hearing around the house and in the car were the Chieftains, Tom Petty, the Irish Tradition, Loreena McKennitt, Ricky Skaggs, Alison Krauss, Emmylou Harris, Crystal Gale, Fleetwood Mac, Bread, and Enya.

I was a child in the fifties and sixties and my parents didn't listen to music much. My father liked opera (his favourite was Tosca), and some musicals such as The King & I. My mother liked classical, particularly piano music (Tchaikovsky, Chopin).
So I learnt about contemporary music from the radio and from my friends at school. After a period of watching Top of the Pops religiously in my early teens, I became more discerning and my favourites were Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, etc.

when I was growing up (I'm pushing 40) Boston, Fleetwood Mac, Journey, Steve Miller Band, AC/DC, etc weren't classic rock.

What was classic rock back then (and still is) Janis, Beatles, Cream, Jimi, The Doors, etc (I was 2 when Janis, Jimi & Jim died)

As I got older I've expanded my musical horizons. I now listen to blues, jazz, r&b (especially Motown) & metal. But classic rock is still my fave.

I go back from Glen Miller, to the Mills Brothers to Harry Belefonte, "Peter, Paul and Mary", The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Yes, Led Zepplin, The Doors, Dr. Hook, Ry Cooder, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jimmi Hendrix, Bach, Mozart, Vivaldi ... and a whole list of others. Now as I continue to grow up ... a lot of blues, jazz, modern rock ... anything that reaches the soul.

I was raised on whatever my parents listened to, so since my daddy was a rocker and momma was all country, I got a good mix of everything. I remember the hair bands - Poison, Motley Crue, Bon Jovi, Guns n Roses and then George Strait, Kenny Rogers, and Reba.
