No, it is being cognizant of where we come from and what shaped us that will help us live our futures better. I think that to focus on our present is important and that one can become to focused on the past, but it still plays a significant role in our lives and in our personal make-up.

Good question.

Well - almost; except that forgetting our past leaves us lost in the present.

Often people focus on the past and forget the present.

We should not forget the past to focus on the present. We should remember the past to create a better present.

History should not repeat itself.

No, we cannot completely forget or obliterate our past completly but neither do we need to think of it too much so as not to be able to focus on present. I think that one should think of the good things of the past that gives us pleasure and from the bad things in our past, we can draw that experience to get stronger or be wiser in future.

we should but we can't. everything we do in the past always comes up in the present. it would be hard to do so.

ever heard the phrase- those who [dont learn] from the past are doomed to repeat it.

the actual quote and its author escapes me. but think about it.

should we DWELL on the past? generally, no; move forward, always.

you can not really disregard the past at all. think about it as simply as clothing- or as complex as culture, movies, philosophy, religion, architecture, everything.

it is impossible to 'forget' the past. whats really dangerous, is denying it.

Repent and improve. That is the way to growth. If you live in your past mistakes, how can you grow? You will be stuck wallowing in your mire. That is why Christ gave us the law of repentance, so we can move forward.

God gave us eyes on the front of our heads so I think we need to look forward and let the past deal with itself...it's gone and can't be changed!
