The first time I watched American Idol, I was there ONLY to laugh at the horrible auditions. I thought I'd get a good laugh, and I did. They were HILARIOUS!!
But, I noticed some of the other contestants were REALLY GOOD. So, I kept watching to see how well they'd do.
Now, I'm hooked. And alot of the ones I rooted for are doing exceptionally well.
I do agree that alot of them are drivel, but I have to admit - it's become a guilty pleasure for me!

See, here's the thing.
Before any of them, there'd been that Regis character
pretending his part on "Who Wants to be More of
A Complete Idiot than other viewers?"
which may've been pronounced slightly different
from its seeming spelling.
And the "music" repelled me in such an automatic
way...I looked to flanking sides and saw friends
who'd graduated top-rate Universities watching
as though their brains had the collective, ahem,
Density of the popcorn they might as well've
been eating.
I have never--spelled and pronunciated the same--
NEVER, EVER sat through any of said tv episodes--
whether Millions-taxed, Nowhere-Near-Reality or
anything resemblant.
And while I'm at it, I CanNot sit through 3 seconds
of that Trump individual, either.
thanks. I feel a little better.

I don't like them either. Despite the name, there is virtually nothing 'real' about them. They are scripted and the outcomes manipulated to suit the producers wishes.
I would rather have a stick poked in my eye than be forced to watch these poor excuses for entertainment.
Give me shows like DEXTER and WEEDs and I'm a happy girl.

I can't stand them either, the worst is anything on MTV, if I am ever in the same room as someone watching any of them, I can actually feel my brain cells shrinking, and why must they say "Like" all the time
I also prefer a book

I HATE THEM TOO... They're so stupid; how can people even watch them?! I'd rather watch a movie.
All of reality shows are like 4 or 5 girls talking, going out with each other, talk about their boyfriends and how they broke up.
"Awww... He was like 'something' and I'm so not like that"
"Yeah, and then I was like 'something' he's a jerk!"
WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH THEM? WHY DO THEY USE "LIKE" SO MANY F*CKING TIMES?!

I never watch reality shows, because they just aren't real. It is just garbage. I have seen enough ads about them to know I am not interested. Drivel is a perfect name for it.

No, I 100% agree with you but I have to admit I watched the first season of Big Brother. I quite like it but the second was stupid.

They're not for everyone specially ME. Can't stand them. It's like Double Dare for adults. They're for people who like to watch people, only they don't want to leave their house to do it. I do like American Idol because it's music and because it's people voting for them not some prearranged BS.

Nope - not the only one.
As an American, I am embarrassed by their popularity and how they depict us - attention world! We're not really like that!
