Ok
heres the run down
*7th grader started my period about 5th grade
*mom hates talking to me about it...i dont know why
*i get really wierd when someone talks about there period...maybe cause mom wont talk with me.

Ok here is just an example of me attempting to ask my mom a period question
Setting: WAL-MART, Down the freezer section, no one around
Charactors: MOM AND ME

Me: Uhhh...mom...this is like wierd..but....umm can I like use tampons?
Mom: WHY? DOES MEGAN USE THEM?
Me: She tried them once and couldnt get it in...she hates them now
Mom: Oh....WHY DO YOU WANT TO USE THEM?
Me: As an alternative
Mom: I'll think about
Then she rushes to the counter.
this was about 2-3 months ago, my period is regular so I get it once a month...pluntey of chances to use them.
She know when I am on my period because of the wrappers.
So im thinkin about asking January period.
I cant this month because it normally comes 18-27 or something like that and I have Christmas to have.

I thought of doing it while she does laundry or something....but she blows me off like everytime i want to know something about period...such as "Got to use the restroom, talk later" and its like she's afraid to talk.
I have older sisters but I feel really wierd doing it with them and not mom, i feel mom should do it. Mom got her tubes tied after i was born so i never had a mom on her period. I think either maybe she didnt know much about her period or she didnt use tampons.
I thought about asking my aunt, but then again I want to do this with my mom.
How do i make her stay and LISTEN to me?

dear, why not ask your mom for a solid 5 mins and sit her down and ask her all you want? and if she starts to feel uncomfortable, or tries to walk away, ask her why. This could all be in your head. Must verify all assumptions!! She probably is preoccupied with something you may not even know about! BUT-- using tampons doesn't need to be a group project. If your mom thinks you shouldn't use them because they would somehow rob you of your virginity, then that is an invalid thought bc virginity is tied to sexual activity and not tampons. So.. unless you have some sort of religious/cultural issue against using tampons, it shouldn't be a problem as long as you use them wisely (take them out by 6-8 hours and give yourself a break overnight if you can). So try to talk to your mom. If she is not talking to you about tampons she may not be open to talking to you about sex either and you do need to be educated about all things adolescents face so you don't go through life naively. You should be aware so you can make the best choices possible... Good luck! Great thinking posting this and wonderful that you noticed it might be that your mom is uncomfortable... (Do try to talk to your sisters) and if all else fails, talk to your school counselor.

Ok here is the thing, you are what around 13? I wouldn't worry about using tampons unless you are going to be going swimming. Tampons can be dangerous. A lot of parents don't like to talk about periods, it can be because she is embarrassed or the fact that her baby is growing up. I mean it could really be anything. Just go to her and say Hey I need to know about these things from you, you are my mother, I love you, I trust you, and I need your input on these things so I know that what I am being told is the right thing instead of listening to my friends who could be telling me the wrong things. Maybe if you feel more comfortable write her a letter and tell her. It is just a scary thing for a lot of moms to talk about with their daughters, just give her some time to get comfortable with it. If it comes down to it just buy some tampons next time you are out without her.

Your mom obviously does not want to talk about it.

Ask your aunt. Just say "my mom won't talk to me about it, so could you help me out?".

Or ask the nurse at school.

if you get an allowance just go buy a pack I know it sucks that you have to go about it that way, but if you like them better then you can tell your mom that and be informed
