In order to graduate a student only requires a minimum 2.0 (C-) GPA. Surely, you've heard the saying, "C's get degrees." well so do a limited number of D's. Remember that a GPA is a grade point average not a grade point minimum. Having two D's is not necessarily going to make for a GPA that is less than 2.0, in fact, I have 3 F's and one D and a GPA over 3.0. Sure, it would be a lot higher if I hadn't messed up a term, but life happens.

Some colleges allow D's and only require an Overall GPA in your major classes to graduate.

I got 3 D's even though I earned A's but was counted off for attendance. I graduated with a Bachelor's.

Each school sets its own standards, but at many, you need a 2.0 GPA overall and a 2.0 in your major to graduate. That means that as long as she had enough As and Bs to compensate for the two Ds, she could graduate.
