There can't be any 'proof', because the argument is completely subjective. Each machine is about the same in design and capabilities, so it comes down to the games. But since so many are going cross platform anyway, I'm not sure theres even going to be that much of a difference there in the long run...you might as well be asking someone to prove which controller is better.

Edit: Thats "woman" named gamefreak, and I actually have a PS3...in addition to a PS2...in addition to a Wii...in addition to a 360...and an original xbox...and nearly every mainstream console (and some not so mainstream) over the past 30+ years. :) The sega consoles were technically 'superior' to the other contending consoles of the time, and where are they now? The betamax was technically better than the VHS system, and yet look who came out on top? Yes, personally I *prefer* sony to MS, prefer blue-ray to HD, and I *think* that having blueray as a game media is an excellent idea, but thats my personal preference, not fact -and as such can not be 'proven'. Again, I say 'the better system' in these two cases, at this moment in time, is purely personal preference'.

Also, on backwards compatibility - microsoft is slowly increasing theirs, bit by bit...and Sony is actually talking about doing away with theirs in the newer PS3s....and personally I'd like to choke whoever at Sony came up with that lame-brained idea. I'm just glad I got mine when I did so for me it isnt an issue...

The guy named Gamefreak that answered this question really just doesn't want to admit the truth because literally everybody knows that the PS3 is the console that is the better gaming system and the PS3 will have the most software support into the future.

And to prove that there will still be PS3 support in the future; PS2 games are still being made for Gods Sake! Basically whenever Microsoft releases another new console it just totally abandons the older console like it never existed like the Xbox when the 360 came out. Maybe Microsoft will learn from Sony and will support Xbox 360 games when another Xbox console comes out.

In terms of the gaming machine with the most potential, it's the PS3. The console with the longest life span is the PS3 and the reason why the PS3 will last longer is because it has more advanced technology. When you think about it, developers are still making games for the 360 like games were made on the PS2 and original Xbox because the 360 still uses standard DVD.

Also, and I have to mention that the PS3 comes with more built in features and with the 360 you have to purchase everything separately. The PS3 is a multimedia and gaming console.

The PS3 is already ahead of the Xbox 360 and is the better console. Sony knew what they were doing when they built in the Blu-Ray into the PS3. Future games are evolving, and games are getting more complex and a standard DVD isn't going to cut it for future gaming. Whenever Sony does something they do it good and they do it right.

well right now Microsoft has a good win, but 5 or more years down the road that all can change if they make huge game that fit most of the data on blue ray and copy Microsoft online and still able to be free, then Microsoft will have a downfall, I still think Microsoft will have American markets for some time.

So for me xbox 360, got the live service, controller, and games.

ps3 I forget what they have other then blue ray and ut3, which will come out for 360 by the end of the year.

All I got to say is that when Xbox fans are going to get their Xbox 720s in a couple of years, I'll still be happily playing my PS3. I mean how long did the last generation of Xboxes last? And no backwards compatibility for the 360!? Way to go Microsoft.

theres a better selection of games for the x box but the ps3 is practically a super computer. people are doing all kinds of things with them and theyre even enabling hackers to hack pc's 100's of times faster than normal.

so...
xbox=more games
ps3= super computer
