not too big, just in general how long does it take to grow a coral

There's a great deal of variability in the growth rates of different corals, so it would matter which kinds were on the reef. The fastest growth rate of any known coral is 264 mm/year (that would be about 10 inches per year). Many only grow a few millimeters/year (less than 1/8 inch).

It depend on many parameters. External parameters like temperature, substrate and salinity of sea water can affect the growth rate of corals. Also some corals can grow faster than others.

But basically, it takes more than a year to grow a 5 cm coral reef. So don't destroy our coral reefs.

Some method like biorock is able to accelerate the growth of corals but it need stable and contionus electricity. Once the electricity is out, the coral will die in a short amount of time.
