When I was growing up, I could not get enough of eating watermelons and the best day of the week was when my mom brought home a family meal of KFC.

Then I learned that was stereotype. Hmmmm.

So let them loose guys!! Honestly, if you are caucasian and think that blacks love fried chicken go ahead and say it. I wanna know what you all think.

I like watermelon and fried chicken and I am white. Most "normal" people like water melon and fried chicken.

Stereotypes are nonsense, behavior comes from your social setting, not your genetic makeup.

While true or not, it seems to give a person or group of persons to be angry because they are categorized, not by what they are doing - for example eating watermelon and chicken, but because of the grouping as a race. It tends to remove their individuality and I have found most do not like that.
Even your question has that form - do you have to be Caucasian to think blacks like that stuff?
I feel it is harmless if we can all let go and just laugh at ourselves, but it takes a certain amount of maturity and open mindness to see how others see you, or the race you belong to.
But this can lead to interesting conversations... do Koreans have the same stereotypes (in general) about Chinese that Caucasians have about Chinese?
They all know Kung-fu right?
Or even location - rednecks in the south?
Seriously, no offense intended.

Stereotypes are never completely true. There are just coincidences. Just because you like watermelon and chicken doesn't mean you are part of the stereotype, my brother is white and he LOVES watermelon and chicken. So what. Sure, some black people like watermelon and chicken, but not every black person does.

hahahah that's the whole point of stereotypes. That sometimes they are true eg. a drunk irish friend, simple blondes and your love of fried chicken.

But what also makes them stereotypes is that they're NEVER all true. There are probably more people who arn't true to the stereotype than those who are. Further more, the person's race/hometown/haircolour etc is not really what makes them do something.

They're just generalisations based on shallow observations.

Stereotypes are the best friend of pathetic TV shows and bad jokes.

um...Why would someone NOT like fried chicken or watermelon? they are damn good!

anyway. Stereotypes are not 100% random, you kno? but they are definitely not true. Every person is different. You can't know anything about person by knowing their race.

Yes. They are true. I've yet to meet a black person who doesn't like chicken. Hell I like chicken and I'm Asian. Racial stereotypes I think are true and here's some of the proof that I've seen. I live in Virginia Beach, there's a store called USA Discounters and they sell everything from beds, tvs to rims. When they had a rim commercial, they didn't show the two dudes faces discussing the rims and where he got them but lets just say they were dressed "hiphop" like and sounded like a couple of blackguys (and yes there is a distinction between blackguys and whiteguys when they talk). Or take the commercial for the McDonalds McRib sandwhich. First: Hiphop music in the back, Wanda Sykes like voice-over. Racial stereotypes are true because it explicitly emulates part of a culture. However that doesn't necessarily mean that the stereotypes applies to every individual of their respective race. I think i went in a rant there....hope this answers your question..:)
Later.

I'm a Mexican who probably eats more fried and chicken watermelon if stereo types are true than I'm probably black

EVERY stereotype has a grain of truth... To be clear, this doesn't mean that they always hold true, but they ALWAYS start from some grain of truth and grow from there (perhaps out of control and wrongly so).

Well my friends always said black people have kinky hair.
Ya know son, we got a problem here. I'm a white @ssed honky and I love fried chicken and watermelon, along with pork ribs, almost all Mexican food and most Chinese food.
The fact is, if we didn't have these stupid stereotypes TV sitcom writers would actually have to think.

This is going to be short and simple. I do not like stereotypes at all and never thought any were true. People are all individuals with their own likes and dislikes, their own habits, beliefs, values etc...
