i agree, there haven't been any *real* scary movies in a long time. I'd have to say i prefer the suspense type the most though. My favorite movie over all is Sling Blade though. Not a scary movie, but it's just awesome.

I like a good mix of suspense and gore.I havent seen anything like that in a long time(its late and maybe I dont remember at the moment)
I watch waaay too many movies to have an alltime fave. The Hole was pretty good.I like psychogirl flicks.Audition was long and I almost didnt make it through the whole movie...10 min of violence was worth the subtitles and boredom.
Grindhouse was very entertaining.
EDIT: Se7en is my alltime favorite movie along with The Fifth Element

I like the suspense ones. Some of my favorites were "What Lies Beneath", "The Village", "Signs". LOVE M. Night Shyamalan(sp?)! I hate the gore ones, like Saw(even though I never have and never will see them, rated R) The gore ones just make you sick, not scared. Some of the old Alfred Hitchcock movies were pretty good too(well they were all good just not all my style)

I agree that scary movies aren't so scary anymore. My favorite type are the legend types. I always try to picture how and where and why it happened. Then i look up information about the real incident.

And here I thought they were only allowed to make movies that were already made... I disagree with your surprise category, all horror movies do that. and the legends are blown so far out of proportion. The guy they based Texas Chainsaw massacre (as well as buffolo bill from silence/lambs and norman bates from psyhco) only killed 2 people.

New administrators/Writers. as quickly as the Wayans left the flicks have been given terrible. the only one which could desire to ever stand close to a million and 2 is two because of the fact of Charlie Sheen. yet a million is undying fantastically in case you delight in the entire ninety's horror/slasher Scream era. yet Date, Epic, Superhero, and so on sucks do not even watch them fantastically disaster is sucks sooooo undesirable.

I love the older ones.
Halloween, Nightmare On Elm Street, that era.
Psychological ones, like Disturbia, do it for me too, as well as good old gore.
