For instants my mother-n-law has seizures and now when she does stupid **** she blames in on her seizures and says she either dosen't remember doing it or she don't know why she has done it. When you comfront her about stuff she tries to jump from topic to topic and acts like she dosen't understand, so I was just wondering if seizures can really cause symptoms like that or is she just using it as an excuse?

no, it can really happen. I have a seizure disorder and I found that before I had one.. all was fine. After I had one, I became EXTREMELY forgetful. To the point I had to write every little thing down that I had done so I would know if I did it already. Like taking medication etc. It is like an electrical current that's shorting out. Sometimes it makes a good connection and at other times it doesn't. It's weird. I'm also sure that it depends on the severity of the seizures and what part of the brain they are originating in. Seizures can affect the body in different ways depending on what part of the brain is being affected. She should go see a neurologist ASAP!!

Some people are not real clear on what they are doing or saying till up to 30 minutes after the seizure.

And a lifetime of seizures might be affecting memory.
but it is just as possible that there is something else going on ( or these are not epileptic seizures) so that their is a new & different medical problems.

I have seen something similar when someone had uncontrolled diabetes.

Well, seizures can cause a lot of symptoms and they can certainly cause not remembering what had happened. Though I think if she is using it all the time then it probably is an excuse. It might actually be true some of the time and an excuse the rest of the time.

very true they forget yet they can recall years and years ago but not what happened a few minutes ago check it out tell her something then ask her to repeat it to you 3-10 minutes later just do not tell her if she forgot.
