They do not explain why on the side of the box.... Sometimes I need these tablets..

If you need them for that long of a time, the problem you have is probably more serious than indigestion, and taking the tablets would be masking a more serious problem. It's a good idea to have yourself checked by a doctor if you are having indigestion this frequently.

I don't know - but my husband takes beano routinely - for the last 2 years and he's ok. It won't kill you, lol
I think they put that on there as a legal precaution. Because people will take the remedy - whatever it is - for weeks, months, years - and figure because the symptom is gone, then so is the problem. It's best to get checked by a dr. if you are still having a problem - because there may be some underlying issue... you know?
