Our families weekly grocery budget is about $100-$150 for 5 people!

That's $5,200-$7,800/yr!

It seems the cost of living and the median income levels are not congruent!

Adolf: I was a semi-driver for a frozen foods company. I understand the cost of transport. I still think it's way too expensive.

My bill was getting so expensive that there are some items, I stopped buying altogether.

I don’t buy any soda because it cost about 4.50 a case not including tax. Once my son stopped drinking soda and got healthier. I decided to give up my three cans of diet 7up a day.

I don’t buy any store bakery pies and treats. Pies are about $7 and I had to stop buying de-boned and skinless chicken thighs. They were about $3.99 a pack and now they are $7-$8 a pack.

I also make a list and never ever buy anything that is not on the list, and I never go over 34.00 a day, but still my bill averages about $165.00

You are not alone.

I'm sort of in the situation that you're saying that you hate. I get kind of spoiled, but I actually earn it. I get straight As and never get in trouble. To be honest, the worst thing I've done in a long time was stay up and play video games until 6am. I do get really annoyed when teens that don't deserve it get ridiculously spoiled though. The reason being first off: they don't deserve it, and second off, it creates a nasty stereotype for kids that do deserve it. It's not fair, but just realize that those kids may be living it good through their teen years, but they'll have spent too much time getting high and catching STIs to ever make it anywhere in life. Then you can laugh at them when they're homeless, begging you for spare change.

You can primarily thank ethanol for bumping up the price of all foods. More farmers are selling their corn for ethanol (which is inefficient compared to petrol). The democrats and the environmentalists not allowing any more oil refineries to be built, which would increase supply and lower demand. And the fact that they won't allow us to drill for oil at home, nor let us build more nuclear power plants. This drives up the costs to harvest and transport food.

Just a couple of the reasons food is going up. Higher taxes, and more government or environmental regulations (global warming hysteria) will only make the problem worse. Changing our tax code to the Fair Tax would help alleviate those costs, since every family would get a probate for necessities like food, clothing and shelter.

Three of us at home normally, four when the oldest is home from college.

Three: $200/week
Four: $250/week

It's insane.

Just a side note:
I know it sounds like I spend too much, but our home is open to and full of our youngest son's friends from football and we feed them snacks, etc. pretty often. I'd rather have them all hanging out at our house and pay the extra $ for food/soda/juice than not knowing where my son is half the time and/or not knowing his friends.

EDIT: What a strange question to get a thumbs down on, for WHAT lol?

My family of 5 is 150-200. I think we need to be better shoppers and clip coupons.

What you're SEEING- is the rising price of Gas- working its way up the food chain. It takes alot of Gasoline to get our food products to WHERE we can buy them. So when the price of Gas goes up- SO DOES everything it "moves". Living- is getting "costlier..." . (And get used to it; cuz it doesn't look like it's gonna go down much- any time soon. :( ...).
