No, and the big commotion about that is that the mayans have a calendar that only goes up to 2012 so they believe the world will end in 2012. It ends in 2012 because it was made along time ago so the creators were like we won't be around when that comes so they can do whatever.

We don't know. But one thing is for sure. Either way, in 2013 people will not be asking about the Mayan calendar / planet X / Nibiru / asteroid / polar shift / comet / Nostradamus / galactic alignment drivel any more. It will be something else.
Remember who told you the world would end in 2012. In 2013 you can put them down as a prophet, a fool or a liar. I know which two of the three are most likely.

on Dec. 21, 2012, the Mayans predicted that the world would end. On that date, the sun will align with the center of the Milky Way for the first time in human history, but most scientists believe that this a merely a coincidence. Also, Nostradamus predicted the world would end in 2012, so start packing for outer space!

I hope so. Then I don't have to pay off my credit cards. Actually, translators of the Mayan Calander have determined that in 2012, there will be the end of a major era. Whether the world ends then is anyone's opinion; nothing unusual happened at the end of the LAST era.

The Mayans predicted that 12-21-2012 would be the end of the world, and so did Nostradamus. However, what neither of them knew was that this is the exact day on which the Earth and the Sun would be in alignment with the enter of the universe. This happens once every 13,000 years. This is why people freak out about it.

Part of the story is that the mayan calander ends. People say that since their calender ends, the world will end. However, what happens when a calender ends? A new year begins. So, the world will not end in 2012 because of this reason.

According to the Mayan Calender the world's cycle will end on December 21st 2012.......which is why its lucky that we dont even use the Mayan Calender!! (we use the gregorian calender which predicts absolutely nothing will happen in 2012) so im guessing we're all going to be safe.

There are twelve great zodiac ages of 2000 years or more totalling a priod of about 26,000 years(the Great Year). The Great Year and the Great Months(Ages) are based on the Earth's axial wobble which produces a slow backward movement(one degree every 72 years) of the equinoxes along the ecliptic. We are now shifting from Pisces to Aquarius.
Every planet has its own ages based on its orbit, rotation, and wobble. Also, every planet has its own unique vernal equinox or Ages starting point based on its ruling sign. Mars, for example , begins its world ages with the zodiacal sign of Aries because this is its ruling sign and ends with Pisces. Earth, on the other hand, begins its ages with Libra and ends with Virgo. Earth's true vernal equinox is 0 Libra, not 0 Aries. There is no one single starting point in the zodiac.
Our natal planetary positions are condensed versions of the Ages. There are 144 such Ages in our solar system, and each of us personally reflect twelve of them in any given lifetime. Those incarnating on Earth reflect this planet's nature(and its Ages) via the Ascendant or Rising sign. Someone with Leo rising or ascendant, for example, will personify the qualites of that time period in Earth's history known as the Age of Leo. He or she will also add to or modify that Age's collective data bank according to how that part of themself is expressed in this lifetime. While natal planetary positions are more or less fixed, those of the Ascendant(and Midheaven) are being fully moulded NOW, as you live.
All planets are dual in nature; that is, they constitute a hollowed out shell and an inner central sun. Both the shell and the sun have their own separate electromagnetospheres and their own Ages and can therefore be considered separate planets(from a geocentric point off view). While the Ascendant derives its source of power from the gravity center within the planet's shell, the Midheaven derives its power from the inner central sun(see diagram below). The Midheaven is our heavenly nature as opposed to our earthly one. Just as lattitude and longitude define any point on Earth, so the Ascendant and Midheaven are the principal elements in a chart which define the individual.
The Global Ascendant is now in the last degree of Pisces/Virgo(1945-2012). The global Midheaven is now in late Sagittarius/Gemeni(see World Ages diagram above), and will continue to be there for the next 300 years or so.
