i have a dell optiplex gx150 that i just upgraded to 512mb. but i wanna get it too burn dvds and have alot more memory than it does. i dont want a gaming pc but i wanna have alot of music and pics. my dell is a basic office version and it has no cd/dvd writing capabilities, no high speed ports, and it has a pentium 3 processor soooo yeah it sucks. i wanna know if i can build a decent low end pc to perform the duties i listed using this cabinet. i am willing to change motherboards and any other necessary components. any input would be greatly appreciated.

if you're thinking of changing MoBo's you're better off with a whole new system .... depending on the processor speed ... a CD-DVD Burner (which will come with all the necessary burning software) and extra Ram is all you'll need ... Burner should set you nack about $50 tops and an extra 512mb Ram about the same (depending on the type of ram)... good luck :)

Buy a dvd/cd burner you could buy used 30 dollars new 50. 512 seems a little low get at least 256 more. You dont need a new processor it ok for basic use and music/pics. What is your hard drive if you want alot of music and pics have at least a 40gb. Oh sorry i miss understood you. You want to use the case and nothing else right. If you want a faster processor get a mobo change and a p4 they are cheap. For what you are asking to do you wouldnt know a difference in performance from a new cheap dell.

You definately can. Just make sure that everything you buy will fit in it. Many sites have upgrade options for particular models of PC or laptop. If yours is too old for this option, just get the stuff that fits a standard tower.(if your is a standard tower) Usually there aren't too many sizes for drives, the motherboard and memory absolutely have to be made for each other though. Good luck!

the sort answer is "NO"... you can't update any hp. dell, compaq or gateway from third party suppliers... you have to buy all the hardware from the manufactures.... and your case and power supply will be out of date even if you bought the hardware from the manufactures...
