We have the Prairie Home Companion, and it is great fun, but it's more of a variety show. The only radio theater I've heard are re-runs of the old, old shows. Not to say they can't be fun, but I'd like to have some new ones. Maybe a couple of hours on a Sunday evening. Different styles...Comedy, drama. Sci-fi...

In the early eighties I was the chief scriptwriter for the Las Vegas Radio Playhouse group. One of my creations was a series called "Ben Maxwell-Private Investigator" set in modern-day Las Vegas. The title character solved crimes without the use of a deadly weapon, rather like Sherlock Holmes. Our shows were played on two stations in the area, both public radio outlets. However, none of the major radio networks were interested.
The last group I heard of doing this sort of thing was one based in Salt Lake City. But, I suspect they folded as well.

The reason this country got to where it is VERY HIGH Educational standards. Most people have a college education behind them and thats why alot of high profile companies still want to come to Ireland It'll be the worst mistake of this current government yet to bring the fees back in as not only will those brainy people not get the place they deerve but the ordinary person wont get the chance to further themselves I know a person with a poor enough Leaving Cert got into a regular course got a Dipploma then went to uni and got an Honours degree and is now a top businessman His Family would not have been able to pay for his college fees and he simply would have gone straight into the workforce with a low educational standard and would not be the success he is today without his college degree Personally i do not believe they will bring in college fees as the government does appreciate the fact that having a highly educated workforce means an awful amount to our Economy

YES!! When I was still working, my week would start on Sunday night at 10 p.m. (and work until 6 a.m. Monday morning). I always got into work early, because I wanted to be settled down well enough to enjoy "Masterpiece Theatre" on the radio....they would replay all of the wonderful old radio theatre shows from the 40s and early 50s. I even got to hear "War of the Worlds" in it's original incarnation!! -- Green Lantern -- Dick Tracy -- all of them were truly wonderful.

Yes I really loved the old radio plays. I grew up without TV so many were the evenings we would sit out on the front lawn under the stars and listen to the radio.
Using your own imagination beats TV anyday. I remember scaring the wits out of myself listening to murder mysteries with all their cheesy sound effects. Kids now a days dont know what they are missing.
It was wonderful having the whole family around you and calling out hello to neighbours as they had their evening stroll!!!
I really miss those times.

We used to have a guy Jack Cullen who would play the old radio shows at night. What a treat. The shadow etc. Passed on but what a guy.

Yes, I would find it very entertaining. I listen to talk radio, which you also have to think about, rather than something you can see( like on tv.) I think there are shows like you mentioned on the radio, here in LA (that is Los Angeles, not Louisiana), like Burns and Allen, etc.

Yes, I'd listen to radio plays. I'd even be satisfied with playing new and classic comedy albums.....it'd be great to hear something like Bob Newhart's albums again. Or how about new sketches and new plays-readings. We need some broadcasters who are not tied to the mega-corporations who are willing to do some programming like you suggest!

I LOVED radio theater! I used to stay up late to listen to it. Yes, let's get that going again! (Doesn't matter what kind; mystery, sci fi, whatever, it was all fun.)

I love the idea!
Most recently they have put "The Twilight Zone" on audio in the old radio style.
Turn off the TV - turn on your imagination!

It would be interesting. Now if I could only find tubes for my parents old radio it would maybe work again.
