It's the whole Harry Potter = evil thing all over again. Even if their are undertones of atheism in the movie kids don't really pick up on that kind of stuff at a young age. I just watched Dumbo a couple months ago and was surprised to see all of the stuff in it that I never caught when I was younger.

How on earth is it racist.

I think it is rather silly for you to be offended by that. It is a FACT that the author of His Dark Materials IS an atheist and promotes this in the books - so what?

I bet you didn't find it offensive that schools are taking out Nativity plays.

EDIT: It's people like you who stir up hatred

Religion, has been the cause of so much turmoil ever since time began. But, people are entitled to believe what they want to....
Your not believing in God, is your preference. Someone believing is theirs. All of it is an "educated guess". There is no real proof you are right or they are right. No one really knows....
So as much as I don't like religion shoved down my throat, your comment that your atheist and proud of it is just as bad in a sense. Believe what you want to, let others believe what they want. What do care what this man says if your beliefs are that strong.... Your not going to change, and no movie is going to change 97% of the worlds population that believe in God.
That may be mass hysteria, who knows. Just the way the world is, and will be, till there is concrete evidence either way.....(just my opinion)

OMG The Golden Compass has been highjacked by conservative christian America. They bitched about Narnia and now this film had been Disneytised to suit a minority audience.

The books are great fiction stories. Leave them alone.

PS It is not a compass it is an alethiometer.

I'm assuming you're talking about the movie "The Golden Compass", whose author is an open atheist. However, his views were toned down for this movie. Still, if people feel threatened by movies like this, it just shows that their faith never was that strong to begin with.

I think its a bit bleak to expose children to atheism too young. I feel that atheism is something you make a mature informed decision about later in life. But dismissing it and demonising it outright it is as wrong as antisemitism.
