I think gender is certainly very important for example in complicated situations such as the runaway trolley. Chances are that a person will chose someone based on their gender than in ethnicity or race. (Although ethnicity is a big one too)

I can see that in parties or gatherings where everyone is a stranger to each other. All the guys drift together. But women do not seem to do that as much.
