I have a stainless steel round table base with a pole attached. Before I attach the base to the top, I need to shorten the pole otherwise the base + top is too high for dining.

Does anyone know who I need to get this done and the approximate cost? (to cut the metal then solder the plate attachment back on - the plate attachment is a square piece of metal with drill holes to attach the table top to).

I don't know what the pole is made of, But you can try using a pipe cutter that they use to cut galvanized pipe with, nice clean cuts.......Or go to a plumbing store and see if they can cut the legs for you.......Of course you'll have to take the legs off.....

look up the yellow pages for a local metal engineering workshop. they will cut the plate off with a grinder, trim the pole and re-weld.
probable cost $40-50.00

you can also check with adult education in your area the welding department, sometimes they'll help you out...maybe for a few bucks...if you want to cut that stainless yourself you could use a grinder if you have the right type wheel...

A reciprocating saw or a hack saw, and a welding torch.

call a machine shop. if they can't do it, they may be able to direct you to someone who can. you might need a plasma cutter to make a clean cut. good luck.
