There are two answers to that.
1. Indigo is halfway between blue and violet. Between 420 and 450 nanometers. Purple is either the same as violet, or somewhere between violet and red. Depending on who you ask.
2. Indigo is a particular color that comes from a dye called indigo, which comes from the indigo plant. Indigofera tinctoria, also known as Indigofera sumatrana.
