instead of looking it up as 'medieval' try to do searches for 'romanesque' art and 'gothic' art, germanic art, celtic art, and byzantine art. and yes, for the most part they were unknown, you might find the names of architects or church sponsors, but not necessarily of a particular artist.

if anyone alive knew them, look how old that person would be....hee hee hee.
if you mean know about them or know of them, then that is easy. you could have spent the minute you spent asking the question and had your answer already if you had typed in "medieval art" or medieval artists in your browser and you would have a had some info immediately, then gone on to research a couple and been finished with your homework by now ...

I have a book called The World's Greatest Art, & there is a ch. on Gothic & Medieval art. They mention several artists & their paintings. Most artists in that era did not sign their work. Western Society really did not have super famous artists untill the Renaisansse.
