If the election is based on electoral votes and not the popular votes why should I stand in line to vote. I know it is my freedom to vote but I am not voting for anything. Right? I mean the electoral votes are what counts. Why do we stay up late to watch the votes come in if the popular vote doesn't count. I have never missed a vote in 18 years but after the last election why should I vote at all??

I appreciate every answer but if my vote is voting for the electoral vote then why are their names on the ballot. I will vote but I am trying to figure out how my vote matters in the Presidential vote! Why doesn't the ballot just read vote for Democratic, Republican?? Also how could a third party ever win an election??

maybe a future president will advocate changing the electoral system - they would be worth voting for :)

If anything, the last two elections have shown that each state makes a difference.
By the way, the Electoral College can only be gotten rid of by a Constitutional amendment, and there are at least 13 states who have 5 electoral votes or less who are not going to cede more power to California, so the Electoral College is here to stay.

To let our state representatives in the electoral college know how we want them to vote. If we didn't vote, they would be the only ones that mattered.

Sure you're voting for something. Technically you are helping decide who will vote in the electoral college for the person you want to be president. You will also be voting for your Congressional representative, possibly a U.S. Senator and maybe for some other political offices. Don't squander your opportunity--please vote.

Because even though it is an outdated system, it is still a form of democracy, and every vote counts. Don't not vote because of the past, vote because of the future.

The Electoral College has been explained to me a gazillion times and it still makes no sense! Traditions are hard to change though!
