Several thoughts here. You didnt mention if you have children. The reason I say that is my lovely daughter put one of her toy cars down the drain, which eventually made it's way to the main pipe, where it stuck and backed up. If you have tried all the usual chemicals, hot water, drano solvents and such and it doesnt help, I would suspect that you have something jammed in the pipes or possibly even a pipe breaking down internally (depending on the age of your house and plumbing). The only way to start to find out is to snake the pipes as far as you can. If that doesnt work, you will be left with no choice but to start at the drain and take it apart to the main drain/stack pipe until you find the clog.

Since it is the shower drain, I'll bet its hair. Using caustic type drain cleaners such as Drano will eat a hole in the clog and then the rest of it runs to the sewer, leaving a partial clog to start the process all over again. I like Draincare by Zep. It is an enzyme cleaner that clings to and eats organic clogs. Safe for all drainage systems (even septics) and no danger to the tub or your kids. Use it at night so it has a few hours to work. Follow the label directions. Available at HD and Lowes for about $8 a jug.

First of all, baking soda and vinegar doesn't work on hair clogs. I have done this before and it has worked for me in the past:
1. I went to Walmart and bought the cheapest Drano type product they had.
2. I poured half the bottle in the shower drain and let it sit for at least 20 minutes.
3. I boiled water in a tea pot and poured it in the drain.
4. pour another pot of boiling water in the drain.
5. After 10 hours or so, pour another pot of boiling water.
6. Pour the rest of the bottle of the Drano type product down the drain and let it sit for at least 20 minutes.
7. Pour two or three pots of boiling water down the drain.
If this doesn't clear it up, you need to use a snake to clean the drain, OR you have a clog in your sewer main, which you will have to call a plumber.
This technique will work on hair and other gunk, but will not work on tree roots.

okay kylie, by the looks of your yahoo 360 picture, you have long, somewhat wavy hair, like my wife. our shower drain was slow since we bought our house 6 years ago. i figured i had to take the drain apart, as someone before had mentioned. but the truth is my wife's long hair loves to form balls once it detaches from her head. i finally went to home depot and spent $20 on a pipe snake (because every liquid concoction i used did nothing). the way the pipe snake works is it grabs the clog (i'll bet you $1000 it's hair) and twists it until it gets intertwined on the end of the snake, and you can just pull it out. i'll tell you, it was the grossest, best experience ever to pull out a big, nasty ball of hair only to know that your shower will drain smoothly from this point on. spend the $20 on the snake before you call a plumber, trust me. i hope it works.

You are going to have to take the piping apart and clean it out. I don't know how your shower is built, so I can't really tell you how to do it. But if all the voodoo witch doctor stuff you bought in the supermarket didn't work, and you can't really get into the drain and dig it out, you don't really have any other choices left. The only other alternative is to call a plumber...

I would bet that there are only two things you can do that will work:
1) Call a plumber or rooter company & have the drain snaked (this will work almost for sure).
2) Try a Zipit (it might work).

Get the toilet plunger (shhhhhh, shut the door, if you don't tell, I won't). place enough water in the shower to cover the plunger bottom. Place the plunger over the drain, push down slowly, then jerk upward quickly. It may take 10 or 12 times, but the hair and gunk that is gummed up will come loose.

Shower drains almost always clog with hair. If lye crystals (Drano) doesn't do the job, try a snake.
