But...I'll bet you have a hammer somewhere...and that works very well....But if you don't have a hammer....try using a meat tenderizing mallet...or something along that order...a really heavy boot perhaps? Use your imagination, fella...I know you have a good one! :)

The hammer idea works, but you have to hit them just right or you crush the shell and the nutmeat. And it is harder to do with the smaller nuts like almonds.

Put the nuts between two towels and then beat them with a hammer.....the towels can be used to clean up the mess afterwards.....
