This is becoming a "hot" button issue with all the republican candidates and its not a "typical" carrot and stick tactic. This is real and very do-able and would be a far more tangible benefit to the citizens of the USA than the "health-care" or "baby fund" carrots that some politicians have to offer.

The fair tax system is a "FAIR" tax----imagine taking your entire paycheck home no deductions what so ever!! And a rebate check is sent monthly by the government to off set essential purchases by all households. Also all hidden taxes such as phone tax, gas tax, tire tax etc etc will be eliminated------In addition congress must ask for "approval" before raising the base tax rate and show "just" cause for doing so.

It will never happen. Why? For the very same reason you stated: It is real and very do able.

A flat tax of 7% - 10% would be a great idea. FOR EVERYONE. Big business included. No deductions. Part of the tax should be used for elections. Instead of the candidates relying on contributions and the pitfalls that come with them.

But that would make too much sense....................

The IRS has to go. I'd rather see the Fair Tax than a flat tax. Income taxes and payroll deductions create a gap between how much an employee makes and what it cost the employer.

Right now with payroll taxes etc. The difference is almost 50%. In other words the take home pay of the hourly worker is about 50% of what they cost the employer.

The other problem with income taxes is that the government uses the tax code to control behavior. The purpose of the tax code is to provide funding for the legitimate functions of government not as a manipulation instrument for experiments in social engineering.

The Fair Tax would be wonderful for the working poor. To be able to keep every cent of their check, plus a pre-bate on the necessities would be a boon to low and middle income families.

The taxing of the underground economy would bring billions in tax revenues. Everyone immediately thinks of illegal activities, but there are millions of people working "off the books" and paying no or very little income tax. The Fair Tax would require them to pay their fair share.

I seriously doubt that either the poor or even the middle class can afford to pay their "fair share" of the taxes that make this country run. My income has nearly double each year over the last three. Each year, I find myself in a new tax bracket and behind the power curve. When I was poor, I had so many deductions and "give-me's" it made life (and filing) easy. Every year, I pay more and more.

The so called "fair tax" is anything but fair. It is just the same old regressive tax.

The poor have to spend every penny they earn of every paycheck. So they are paying taxes on 100% of their income.

After the wealthy buy so many mansions and yachts and cars they still have much money left to invest in things where they would pay no tax at all so they are paying tax on a small percentage of their incomes.

Once again the tax burden would fall on the poor and middle income people.

I'm all over that ... as long as the tax is truly "fair" and not regressive toward the poor and lower middle class.

Im with the Flat Tax, and the Fair Tax is nothing but the same old regressive tax.

Just take a look at the 2 min video below of Huckabee's so called FairTax, and Ron Paul's Flat Tax. And you decide what is better for you.

Flat tax...sign me up. The #u@%ing IRS strips away 40% every quarter. They hate organized crime because they hate the compition.
