OK - I've been breastfeeding for 8 months now...everything has been fine. All the sudden...in the last few days - my left nipple has been very sore - especially when she is nursing from that side. It's not cracked or anything....not sure what is going on. Milk supply is fine...and baby doesn't notice a difference. Does anyone know what could be the problem.....or ever had that problem yourself? THANKS

Have your periods returned yet? Once mine started up again, I was really sore on the right side for a few days before each period.

u may have masties.which is a block in one of ur milk ducts.it usually happens when a baby has been feeding more off one side more than the other but sometime it can be a build up aswell.
try gently massaging it in the spot that it is feeling sore but when you do use the tip of ur figure pads and in circular motion do it once every hr for about 24hrs if within a day that isnt helping you should go see ur doctor he will ahvea look at it and can put u on medcitaion 2 help the milk duct release the backed up milk and relieve the pain.themedication is safe enough for u 2 take and it doesnt affect ur milk or the baby

OK. don't panic. It could be mastitis ( a blocked milk duct but with inflammation ) or even a yeast infection. Yes, a yeast infection. I just got over one and it was really painful and itchy. I thought the worst and my family physician just gave me a script for an anti-fungal and voila, it was gone in a couple of day.
I do however, urge you to go the doctor. Don't mess around and wait. If it is minor, you'll know right away!
congratulations for keeping up with the breast feeding. Your daughter will be so much better for it.
good luck!

Does she have any teeth yet? There have been several times my son has scraped his teeth against my nipple and it didn't leave any marks, but made it sore. He's also managed to hurt it from sucking very hard for too long.

Try using some lanolin on it. It doesn't have to be washed off before nursing, and is helpful for all sorts of nursing wounds.

perhaps you have an inflamed or infected milk duct? best thing would be to talk to your doctor about it before it becomes a big problem

good luck

does your baby have teeth? My son sometimes rubs his teeth on my nipples, which cause them to be sore

IF HE/SHE NURSES MORE ON THAT BREAST THAT COULD BE THE PROBLEM TRY FEEDING FROM YOUR RIGHT MORE, OR TRY PUTTING THE BABY UP HIGHER
